Norvis, newly developed data system for processing of visa applications
The processing of visa applications have become quicker as a result of Norvis, the new data system. This also gives the police greater control possibilities at the border.

The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI's) new system for the processing of visa applications is a newly developed data system, common for the police, immigratiion authorites and the Norwegian foreign service missions.

The system was developed gradually, with the initial project already started in 2003. Currently, the system is fully in use and all the Norwegian foreign service missions, immigration authorities and the police are connected together.

The plan is to connect NORVIS in the spring of 2007 to the Schengen system VIS (Visa Information System). All the countries in the Schengen will then get the same information and details for use in the processing of visa applications
