From 1 March 2008 a new waste disposal regime is implemented at Kaarstoe gas treatment plant. The old disposal system is terminated and the old waste containers will be removed

From the same date "Kaarstoe Mooring Service" is responsible for removal of all ship waste. They will assist the crew, pick up and transport the waste to a new disposal facility within the plant area. However, no waste should be discharged to the jetty unless approved by the mooring service. Simultaneously a new identification system for ships waste is implemented together with a separate waste certification system.  A waste certificate will therefore be issued by Kaarsto Mooring Service as approval for disposed waste.

The Master must as usual declare the waste in due course prior to arrival in port (preferably min.24 hours before) and ensure that the waste is adequately sorted and properly marked by the ship’s crew before arrival.  The mooring service or the agent will supply stickers to attach to the items of disposal.

Items not sorted or marked, will be rejected.

The waste should be sorted and marked as follows:

1) food waste
2) paper and cardboard
3) hazardous waste:   hazardous waste is paint, varnish, glue, chemicals, fluorescent   tubes, oil filters, waste oil, batteries, etc. Etc.
4) plastics waste
